Counselling in Wellington
ACC Treatment Provider
Every journey begins with a single step.

Why Choose Counselling?
Life is a journey - why not enjoy the ride?
As we go through life we come across many possible routes. With so many different roads to choose from, it can sometimes be difficult to decide which choice most fits who we are as a person. That's where counselling comes in.
Working together, I will help you either get the most from the route you're on, or assist you in getting back on the roundabout and finding a new road or life direction.
Helping you find what's best for you is something that I am passionate about. We all need a hand at different points in our lives.
Standing alongside you, I will work in a collaborative way, using many different approaches to help you find the right road for you.

What to Expect
Anything new can feel a little daunting, and counselling is no exception. Talking about difficult experiences or feelings might seem intimidating, especially if you're not sure what you want to achieve.
But, like anything else, it's often not as hard as you were expecting. And I'm here to help and support you through the process.
Our first session will generally be an opportunity for us to get to know each other a little. We'll speak about what's brought you to counselling, and what you would like to achieve through future meetings. It's a chance for you to talk about the problem as you see it. But there's no pressure - you can share as much or as little as you want to. Either way, I'll work with you to find insight into the issues you are dealing with. Everything we discuss is entirely confidential.
This will also be an opportunity for me to explain to you how I work, and to answer any questions that you might have.
We will then discuss possible ways of moving forward together. We will collaboratively work out a plan of when and how often it would be best to catch up, and we will set a first goal for therapy. This goal can, of course, be changed or reshaped as we go along.
If you are happy to work together, we will arrange a time and day to begin your journey.
Counselling is a way for you to take back the power in your life, and take the first step forward yourself.

The Modalities of Counselling
The tools we'll be working with.

Person Centred Therapy
PCP is a non-directive, empathic approach that empowers and motivates the client in the therapeutic process. It is built on the belief that it is the therapist's job to assist the client in seeing that they have the capacity to fulfil their own potential in making positive change in their life.
Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT)
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) encourages people to embrace their thoughts and feelings rather than fighting or feeling guilty for them.
This is based on an assumption that different things are likely to help different people at different points in time. Clients set a counselling goal (or goals) and then we employ different modalities to reach these goals.

Narrative Therapy
Narrative Therapy centres people as the experts in their own lives. It views problems as separate from people and assumes people have many skills, competencies, beliefs, values, commitments and abilities that will assist them in reducing the influences of problems in their lives.
Pluralistic Approach
